Our Histroy

What began in 2019 as a small program helping young people attend their Year 12 formals has grown into something far greater than we ever imagined. As our platform expanded, so did our vision. New ideas emerged, new needs became visible, and our community rallied behind the belief that we could do even more good in the world.

Over the years, our charity has evolved into a community‑powered force for kindness. Together, we’ve supported thousands of people through Christmas hampers, Mother’s Day bags, and essential items for individuals and small groups in need.

One of our most meaningful initiatives has been our wedding dress giveaways, often helping terminally ill community members experience the wedding day they’ve always dreamed of.

We work hard to ensure every donated item reaches the people who need it most, women escaping domestic violence, people experiencing homelessness, local alternative schools, and students who simply can’t afford formal tickets.

Our reach now extends far beyond our local area. We’ve sent box loads of formal wear to communities in Yarrabah, Lockhart River, Rockhampton, Cherbourg, Bamaga, Aurukun, Tenterfield, Townsville, Warwick, Ballina, and most recently the Northern Territory. Items that can’t be used are donated to local schools, where they’re transformed into dance and drama costumes.

We’ve proudly outfitted many Elders for special events and supported individuals through disability services. To date, we’ve helped dress more than 10,000 students and community members. While we don’t have an exact count of every dress, suit, or item that has passed through our doors, it’s easily in the tens of thousands.

With around 63 drop‑off locations now available, donating has never been easier.

Most importantly, none of this has been achieved alone. Every hamper packed, every gown gifted, every smile shared has been made possible by the incredible support of our community.

We are, and always will be, a community effort.

2019:

Started from our kitchen with the plan that no young person should miss out attending their formal due to not having the funds for an outfit.

Outfitted 236 students.

2020:

The year started off quiet, with COVID but near the end of the year the need for help sky rocketed. With the grow in demand and offers of support from the community, we began setting up drop off locations making it even easier to donate second hand formal wear. We ran all of this from our garage .

2021:

Logan floods filled the garage but we were back up and running after washing and cleaning almost 1000 dresses. Formally Ever After expanded to help more than just locals, growing connections in remote communitiies and around Brisbane and Queensland. We sent several hundred dresses and suits to Aurukun for their 1st ball, for school formals and community events. Word continued to spread, growing the community support, with more schools and organisations reaching out. We moved house, packing up an entire level of our old rental home of formal wear and accessories.

We planned on moving rental locations and placed a good porten of our formal wear in storage in preperation. A few days before the move there was a fire were at the stroage location, with over 1000s of items destroyed. With community support from all over Australia we built back up within 3 weeks and reopened to welcome students. It was a very hard and stressful time, such a big loss but through countless tears we kept getting back up and moving forward. But once again with our community support we were able to keep going and eventually the downstairs area of our new rental started to overflow with donations.

2025:

2025 has been one of the biggest and most transformative years for Formally Ever After Qld Inc. What began as another year of helping our community quickly grew into something extraordinary — filled with milestones, partnerships, recognition, and moments of pure kindness.

We started the year strong at our home base in Beenleigh, preparing alongside our community for Cyclone Alfred, ensuring families had what they needed to stay safe. From there, the momentum never slowed.

Throughout the year, we were honoured to be invited as guest speakers at both the Rotary Club of Logan and Soroptimist International of Beenleigh, sharing our mission and the impact of community kindness.

Mother’s Day was a huge success, with 120 Mother’s Day bags created and 100 beautiful handmade rugs gifted to mums in need. Soon after, we proudly joined the Beenleigh Cane Parade 2025 with our very own float, a joyful celebration of community spirit.

We partnered with KingStones Innovative Disability Support Services to bring Christmas in July to the residents of Igenia Gardens, and later collaborated with Bethania Community Centre to host a fashion show raising awareness for Formally Ever After. Our work continued on the runway when we joined forces with Loud N Proud Logan for the 2025 Festival Fashion Show.

This year, we also sent formal wear to many remote communities, ensuring young people in regional and isolated areas could attend their special events with pride. In total, we shipped approximately 43 boxes of formal wear and mixed items, made possible through our partnership with Watego Refrigerated Transport.

We were honoured to be part of GLAM It Up for Charity’s annual fundraiser, and we attended the Bethania Community Centre’s Breast Cancer Awareness High Tea, hosted by Devon Pixies.

2025 also brought unexpected recognition. Tammy was voted Queensland’s Kindest Person by Black Pepper, featured on Channel 9 News, and later crowned Australia’s Kindest Person for 2025, appearing on Sunrise to share the story of Formally Ever After. She also joined Rotary of Loganholme and was deeply honoured to receive a Paul Harris Fellow Award.

Our fundraising efforts grew through partnerships with KingStones and Anandam Wellness, helping us continue to support students and families across Queensland.

Christmas was another enormous achievement. Together with Bethania Community Centre we created 180+ Christmas hampers and supported hundreds of families with Christmas presents. We also joined our first-ever Emergency Services Santa Run, a magical experience we’ll never forget.

Throughout the year, we continued to support students with formal tickets, hair and makeup, transport, and more, ensuring no young person missed out on their milestone event. None of this would have been possible without the generosity, kindness, and unwavering support of our community. Every donation, every share, every message, every act of kindness has helped us change lives.

Thank you for making 2025 our biggest year yet. Here’s to even more kindness in 2026.
